ALTA VISTA - Leon C. Recker, 69, died Thursday, April 13 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN of congestive heart failure.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 17 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Alta Vista with Rev. Roger R. Rethamel presiding. Jolene Frantzen was organist and accompanied soloist Betty Boehmer and the St. Bernard’s Choir. The family placed the pall and gift bearers were Karol Reid, Karen Snyder, Donna Whalen and Eva Brooks. Cy Freidhof was i lector and John Loes was Eucharistic Minister.

Interment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista with Andy Sinnwell, Ken Northness, Paul Hentges, Tom Mahoney, Syl Whalen and George Snyder serving as casketbearers. Graveside military services were conducted by Paul Johann VFW Post 4069 of Alta t Vista;

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 16 at Conway Funeral Home in Elma where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation was also an hour before service time at the church.

Leon Charles Recker was born June 8, 1930 at Alta Vista, the son of Charles and Rose (Hermsen) Recker. He graduated from St. Williams High School in Alta Vista and farmed with his father from 1944 to 1951. He served with the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a radio traffic analysis specialist. After his discharge, he graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City and then moved to Ames where he was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation in Ames for 38 years.

Leon was married to Taisa Stauber Aug. 28, 1971 in Ames. After his retirement in 1993, they moved to Alta Vista where they have since made their home.

Survivors include his wife, Taisa; a daughter, Susan (Geoff) Guttschow, Paddock Lake, WI; two step-children, Robert (Julia) Recker, St. Cloud, FL and Tanya (Tony) Pietron, Omaha, NE; one grandson, Jared Pietron; and two sisters, Adella Sinnwell, Alta Vista and Marie Recker, New Hampton.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Edwin, Ray, Ambrose and Louis Recker; and one sister, Leonita Northness.
