NEW HAMPTON -Francis A. Pietan, 54, New Hampton, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton of natural causes.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Rev. Greg Haugen, Pastor of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Waterloo, officiating. Carol Anderson was organist, accompanying those in attendance in singing ’^mazing Grace" and "Just As I Am Without One Plea".

Burial was in the New Hampton Cemetery with Terry Pietan, Paul Allen, Shane Pietan, Jeff Pietan, Dave DeWitt and Paul Barta serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Joshua Anderson, Justin Anderson, Clint Pietan, Logan Havlik, Gary Calhoun, Chris Havlik, Cecil Anderson and Joe Niehaus. Military honors were accorded by the New Hampton VFW and American Legion Posts.

Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and also one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Francis A. Pietan was born April 13,1946 in New Hampton, the son of Rollo and Marie (Ronnei) Pietan. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 8, 1965 and served during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged on April 26,1968. After returning from Vietnam he married Bonnie Throndson. The ccuple made their home in Cedar Rapids, where Francis worked for Wilson Meat Packing. They moved back to New Hampton and he began working at John Deere in Waterloo. The couple were later divorced. He then married Colleen McRoberts. They resided in New Hampton ana were later divorced. Francis then moved to Waterloo where he spent several years before moving back to New Hampton, his current residence. Francis was a jack-of-all-trades, enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing and his John Deere lawnmower.

Surviving are Three daughters, Penny (Cecil) Anderson, San Antonio, TX, Anna (Chris) Havlik, New Hampton, Kellee Pietan and special friend, Joe Niehaus, Lancaster, WI; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Marsha Allen and Dianne Pietan, Evansdale, Cyndi Cavalier, Jarrell, TX; five brothers, Glenn and Dan, Waterloo, Larry, New Hampton, Dale, Elk Run Heights, Bill, Evansdale; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding him were his grandparents; hiss mother, Marie in 1972; his father, Rollo in 1998; two great-nieces, Morgan (1995) and Hannah (1997).
