Obituary for Jeanne Lois Huber
Jeanne Lois Huber age 91 of New Hampton, IA, died Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center - New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton.

Friends may greet the family beginning at 9:00 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, at the church.

Jeanne Lois Huber was born on the Halvorson family farm north of New Hampton, IA, on December 8, 1925, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Olson) Halvorson. She attended several rural country schools of which the Meadowlands School was her favorite. Jeanne graduated from the New Hampton High School in 1943. She worked for some time in the Iowa Governor’s office and then attended the former Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, receiving a normal teaching certificate.

While she was teaching at a country school near Schley, IA, she met her future husband, Kenneth William Huber. The couple were married on November 27, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church in Waterloo. To this union four children were born. Jeanne continued as a school teacher and was also a substitute in the New Hampton School system. She later worked at the former IGA grocery store and the former Kummeth Furniture Manufacturing, both in New Hampton. Jeanne began working at Sara Lee in the early 1970’s and retired after over 25 years of work in 1996. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed going to area casinos and spending time with her granddaughter, Sara. For many years Jeanne was part of a group of ladies known as the “Lunch Ladies” who often gathered to have lunch together.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen (Kent) Loonan of Hudson; two sons, Chris (Carolyn) Huber of Jerico, Thomas Huber of New Hampton; one granddaughter, Sara (Dan) Johnson of Swisher, IA; two great-grandchildren, Ava Johnson and Mack Johnson; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth in 1979; a son, Kenny Jr, in 2013; two brothers, Benny Halvorson, Frank “Hartley” Halvorson; one sister, Anna Mae Qualley.
