NASHUA - Lester L. Hurd, 82, died Saturday morning, Jan. 29 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City of cancer.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at St. John Lutheran Churcn in Nashua.
Inurnment was at Greenwood Cemetery near Nashua.
Visitation was held from 3 to 7 .m. on Monday, Jan. 31 at henoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Lester L. Hurd was born on Sept. 7, 1917 at Greene, the son of Charles A. and Barbara (Kirsch) Hurd. He received his education at Pleasant Grove Country School through the eighth grade, graduating from St. Mary's Academy in 1936.
Lester married Margaret Ackley on Sept. 14, 1940 at Marble Rock. They farmed in the Greene area until 1967. After farming he was a custodian at Highland Terrace in Charles City for 13 years. Later they owned a restaurant for four years, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hurd, Nashua; three sons, Ronald (Anna) Hurd, Nashua, Charing (Jodell) Hurd, Charles City- and Steve (Julie) Hurd, Nashua; three daughters, Sharon (Jim) Woosley, Missouri, Jackie (Randle) Livingston, Nashua and Mary (Arlen) Janssen, Nashua; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Oscar Hurd, Cedar Falls; and two sisters, Leora Kepple and Katherine Schunecht, both of Greene.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Grace Hurd.
