WAUCOMA - Madonna B. Hoey, 90, died Oct. 9, 2000 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home in Monroe, WI.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Waucoma, with Father Marvin Salz presiding. Jearmie Riha was organist and lector was Patrick Place. Mass servers were Amy Hoey, Michael Hoey and Bob Balk.

Internment was in St. Rose Cemetery with family members as pallbearers.

Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Waucoma Funeral Chapel with Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, in charge of arrangements.

Madonna B. Canty was born Aug. 22, 1910 in Lawler, the daughter of Eugene and Rose (O'Byrne) Canty. She was a 1928 graduate of Lawler High School and attended Clark College in Dubuque. On July 7,1941, Madonna was united in marriage with Anthony L. Hoey at Mt Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler. She taught in several rural schools in the Jackson Junction area and also at St. Mary's School in Waucoma. She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe, WI and the Catholic Daughters of America, serving as Grand Regent.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lou (Clarence) Bruess, Monroe, WI; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Edna Hoey, Lawler and Margaret Canty, LaCrosse, WI; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Anthony; five sisters, Marie Quirk, Florence Goss, Pearl Kane, Marguerite Canty, Leona Canty; two brothers, Eugene Canty and infant Byron Canty.
