NEW HAMPTON -- Loreen J. Heusmann, 75, New Hampton, died Saturday, June 17 at Mercy Medical Center-New Hampton of natural causes.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Rev. Carol Christianson officiating. Dennis Strom was organist, accompanying Richard Leichtman and Ruth Ann Upham as they sang "In The Garden, "Matt Strum singing "A Mighty Fortress", Richard Leichtman singing "The Lord's Prayer" and those in attendance m singing "Life High The Cross" and "Children of The Heavenly Father". Kathy Babcock read a poem in remembrance of Loreen. Casket bearers were Tony Breitbach, Kim and Emily Babcock, Pat and Leah Carlin and Matt Strum.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the New Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 20 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and also an hour prior to services at the church.

Loreen Janet Heusmann was born July 22, 1924 in New Hampton, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Stollfuss) Leichtman. She graduated from New Hampton High School in 1942 and received her teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. She was united in marriage with Waldemar F. Heusmann on June 6, 1946 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Hampton. She took her first teaching job in Calmar, then taught at the Rudd-Marble Rock Schools for a year before moving to New Hampton where she taught until her retirement in 1985. Loreen was a member of numerous organizations, including the Alpha Delta Kappa (teachers) Sorority and the New Hampton Women's Club. She was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and spent time volunteering for Meals On Wheels, the Out Patient Clinic and the Immunization Clinic.

Surviving are one son, David (Pat), Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Barbara (James) Berry, Portage, MI; two grandchildren, Nicole and Joshua Berry; one sister, Josephine Fliger, Neosho, MO.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Waldemar on June 23, 1995; one brother, Alden Leichtman.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
