NEW HAMPTON - Dean Paul Hassman, 59, Denver, CO, formerly of New Hampton, died Saturday, April 22 of brain cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at Montview Presbyterian Church in Denver.

Dean was born May 5, 1940 in New Hampton, the son of Paul E. Hassman and the late Lillian Lucille Hassman. He graduated from New Hampton High School and attended Dunwoody Institute, completing a program in carpentry. Dean served in the U.S. Army, including time in Germany. He has resided in Colorado since 1963. Dean worked with the telephone company in communities outside Denver and was an ironworker from 1969 until his retirement in 1993, spending two and one-half years on the Denver International Airport project. He enjoyed outdoor activities, including mountain climbing, biking and hiking, assisting with projects such as Habitat for Humanity and inventing things. Dean received a U.S. patent for a sheetrock hanging tool in November 1999.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah McDowell; two daughters, Polly (Peter) Cohen, Pougnquag, NY and Amy (Billy) Thieme, Denver, CO; two grandchildren; his father, Paul Hassman, New Hampton; two sisters, Mary (John) Argeropoulos, Rebecca (Leonard) Splittstoesser; five brothers, Ray, Gordon, Gene, John and Kevin.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Lillian Lucille Hassman.

Memorials may be directed to the Habitat For Humanity, American Brain Tumor Association or any local library.
