CHARLES CITY - Irene M. Harrington, 77, Charles City and formerly of New Hampton, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, East Campus, Mason City, following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.. Friday, Oct. 13 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, with Msgr. Stanley J. Hayek as celebrant.

Burial will be at a later date in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Nashua.

Friends may call Friday from 10:15 a.m. to service time at the church, where the casket will remain closed. Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Mae Betsinger was born Nov. 3, 1922 in Waverly, the daughter of George and Edith (Pratt) Betsinger. She attended school in Waverly. On April 20,1944 she was united in marriage with Norbert John Harrington Sr. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. The couple made their home in Nashua Defore moving to New Hampton in 1964. Her husband died m 1983 and in 1985, Irene moved to Charles City. She was a longtime employee in the dietary department of St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in New Hampton, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, the Rosary Society and St. Michael's Circle. Irene enjoyed being with her family and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her children, Norbert (Diane) Harrington Jr., Rochester, MN, Michael (Patricia) Harrington, Mankato, MN, Kenneth (Sharon) Harrington, St. Michael, MN and Mary (Dennis) Johnson, Floyd; nine grandchildren; two "brothers, Charles Betsinger and Curt (Betty) Betsinger, Waverly; a brother-in-law, Casper Zwanziger, Clarksville; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Maggie Betsinger, Owatonna.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Norbert on Nov. 14, 1983; a daughter, Rosanne Harrington in 1956; two sons, Ronald Harrington in 1947 and Patrick Harrington in 1958; a grandson, Ryan Harrington; her parents; two brothers, Lester and Edward Betsinger; three sisters, Margaret Zwanziger, Dorothy Chestnut and Mildred Rohde.
