MOUNT VERNON, WA -Pastor Edward C. Fritschel, 74, Mount Vernon, WA, formerly of New Hampton, died Sunday, July 2 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 7 at the Fir-Conway Lutheran Cemetery, Conway, WA.
Memorial services followed at noon at the Edison Lutheran Church, Bow, WA, with Pastor Martin Taylor officiating.
Edward C. Fritschel was born Sept. 19, 1925 at Minneapolis, MN, the son of Theophilus and Elsie (Huth) Fritschel. When a teenager, Edward's family moved to New Hampton where he graduated from New Hampton High School in 1943. He graduated from Wartburg College in 1947 and Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, in 1951. He was ordained into the Lutheran Ministry on June 3, 1951. On June 20, 1951, Pastor Fritschel was united in marriage with Mae Schiers at Dubuque. The couple made their first home at Portland, OR where he began his pastorate at Luther Memorial Church. He subsequently served congregations at Grace Lutheran Church, Lewiston, ID, Edison Lutheran Church, Bow, WA and Fir-Conway Lutheran Church, Conway,. WA (interim Pastor). His interests included music, golf and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Mae, Mount Vernon; a daughter, Pamela Fritschel, Montesano, WA; a son, Karl Fritschel, Seattle, WA; one sister-in-law, Bette Fritschel, Plover, WI; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Arthur and Leonard; one sister-in-law, Mathilda.
Memorials may be directed to the Fir-Conway Lutheran Church, 18101 Fir Island Road, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
Arrangements were handled by Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington, WA.
