John D. (Jack) Gleason, 82

OWATONNA, MN - Jack Gleason, 82, Canon City, CO, formerly of Owatonna, MN and New Hampton, died Dec. 20 at the Veterans Hospital in Denver, CO.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Owatonna with Rev. Thomas Hargersheimer officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Steele County Veterans Organizations.

Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 4-8 p.m. at the Brick-Postlewaite Funeral Home in Owatonna and also on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

John D. Gleason was born Nov. 14, 1917 in Elkader, the son of Clement and Irma (Liddy) Gleason. The family lived in New Hampton and operated Gleason’s Tavern. Jack graduated from New Hampton High hool. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Aleutian Islands.

On April 1, 1943 he was united in marriage with Alveda Bender in Midland, TX. Jack ran Tony's Best Value Hardware, worked at the Hotel Owatonna, Wickes Lumber and Reserve Supply in Owatonna. He was united in marriage with Mary (Srsen) Breidenbach on Oct. 28, 1989 in Cascades, CO. Jack was a member of the VFW and American Legion and Elks Lodge 1135.

Surviving are nis wife, Mary; three sons and THeir wives, Terry and Carol, Littleton, CO, Chuck and Sharon, Omaha, NE, Jim and Jean, Owatonna, MN; six grandchildren; two stepsons and their wives, John and Gloria Breidenbach, Canon City, CO, Barry and Gretchen Breidenbach, Palmer Lake, CO; 10 step grandchildren; seven step greatgrandchildren; a brother, Richard Gleason, Florida; a sister, Jean (Bill) Moreland, Albuquerque, NM.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Alveda on Nov. 14, 1987 and one brother.
