NEW HAMPTON - - Lucille T. Forkenbrock, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 8 at her home following a lengthy illness.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her two sons. Lector for the service is Bill Eischeid with music provided by Ann Bennett as organist, Mike Carlin as vocalist and the St. Mary's Choir. A neighbor, Sue Beckman is Eucharistic Minister.
Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery with Don Winter, Don Blazek, John Wandersheid, Tom McGowan, Norb Shileny and Don Blazek, Jr., as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 3-8 p.m. at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton. There will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of America Rosary and a 7 p.m. parish scripture service.
Lucille was born in rural Lawler on June 21,1912, the twin daughter of George P. and Mary T. (Schwendinger) Winter. She attended St. Joseph's School in New Hampton and then the new Hampton High School graduating in 1930. After graduation she enrolled in Calhoun Secretarial School in Minneapolis graduating in 1931. After graduation she worked for several companies in Minneapolis and St. Paul. In 1933, Lucille began work in Des Moines at the State House and later the Accounting department in the Oransky Building. In 1940, the office that Lucille worked in was transferred to Chicago where she worked for two years.
On Aug. 9, 1943 she married Joseph (Bernard) Forkenbrock. After their marriage Lucille worked for ?. Smith and then for Vince Steffen, retiring at age 62.
Memberships include St. Mary's Church and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America since 1947. In her free time Lucille enjoyed playing 500 and Bridge as well as being a strong supporter of the Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football teams. Writing poetry and crossword puzzles were also favorite pastimes.
Survivors include two sons, John Forkenbrock and his wife Patty, Sterling, VA; Jim Forkenbrock, New Hampton; four grandchildren, Noelle Kostecki, Nicolle Reyna, Ryan Elizabeth Forkenbrock and Jamison Forkenbrock; one brother, Leo "Pete" Winter, New Hampton; one sister, Margaret Blazek, New Hampton.
Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Mary Winter; her husband, Joseph Bernard Forkenbrock on Jan. 26, 1955; two sisters, Mayme McGowan and her twin, Rocille Winter in infancy; two brothers, Andrew and George "Pat" Winter.
