ALPHA— Ruth Davis, 98, formerly of Alpha, died Monday, Dec. 11 at the West Union Good Samaritan Center, West Union following a brief illness.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at the United Methodist Church, Alpha with Rev. Roger White officiating.
Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, Alpha.
Ruth was born July 13, 1902 near Lawler, the daughter of Carl and Georgianna (Hinkley) Davis. She married William Davis on June 4, 1925 in her parents' home. They became the parents of six children.
Ruth received her BA degree in elementary education from Upper Iowa University, Fayette and began her teaching career in 1921. She taught many years in rural schools in Fayette and Chickasaw Counties, retiring in 1968 while working in the Waterloo school system. She resided in Alpha until 1994, when she entered the Good Samaritan Home, West Union.
Survivors include a son, Alan, Waterloo; two daughters, Carlene Meier, Cedar Rapids and Margaret Kelly, Fairborn, OH, two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
