NEW HAMPTON - Justin (Jay) Dee, 84, New Hampton, died Tuesday, May 2 at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 a.m.
Friday, May 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton, with Rev. Carl Schmitt as celebrant.

Placing the pall were his brother and nieces. Lector was Rosie Deutsch; Ralph and Gerry Kennedy presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Ann Bennett as organist and the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton, with Kevin Morgan, Jesse Morgan, John Condon, Joe Kerwick, Kevin Kennedy and Mike Kennedy as pallbearers. Military rites were accorded by the Fae Stine American Legion Post #38.

Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Parish Scripture Service and also one hour prior to services at the church.

Justin was born Jan. 16,1916 in New Hampton, the son of Thomas and Mary (Condon) Dee. He was a 1934 graduate of New Hampton High School.

Following graduation, Justin enrolled in the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. He then began working with the America Soil and Conservation Service in Des Moines. On Dec. 2,1941 he entered active service with the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of MasTer Sergeant. He saw duty in Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland, where he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal and three Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 12, 1945. Justin was the State Director of Federal Crop Insurance for the State of Iowa until the mid-1960s at which time he worked in Washington DC for the Federal Department of Agriculture under Bob Berglund, Secretary of Agriculture.

Justin retired in 1977 and moved back to New Hampton. After suffering a stroke in July 1999, he became a resident of the New Hampton Care Center.
Survivors include one brother, Robert Dee, New Hampton; four nieces, Marilynn Morgan, Minneapolis, MN, Kathleen Dee, Albuquerque, NM, Joan Dixon, California and Anita Wilson, Bettendorf.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Flavin, William, Frank and Evroul; one sister, Wava Mary Dee.
