Obituary for Katherine Maxine Flugum

Katherine Flugum, age 90, of Nashua, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa.

Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home -- Olson Chapel in Nashua with Rev. Lonnie Wilkerson presiding.

Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Katherine was born January 25, 1926, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Rose (Stoll) Enright. She was baptized Lutheran in Forest City, Iowa. She attended school through 8th grade in Forest City.

She was united in marriage to Emil Kenneth Flugum on August 15, 1948 in Forest City, to this union two children were born. Even though Emil and Katherine grew up less than 15 miles apart, they did not meet until they were both in San Fransisco through mutual friends. Katherine worked in a candy factory and Emil was in the Merchant Marines.

She loved to read many different genres of books including history, geography or mystery. She loved taking her grand kids fishing, rock hunting or to flee markets. Katherine collected dolls and enjoyed making doll clothes. She also spent a lot of her time gardening, painting and spending time with her cats. After marriage she became a full time homemaker, working with Emil on the different farms they had together.

Katherine is survived by one daughter, Karen Williams of Clarksville, Iowa; one son, Kenneth (Janet) Flugum of Riceville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by husband, Emil; her parents; one brother, (Robert Enright); one sister, Aileen Keough; one great-great-granddaughter Andreah Lynn Flugum.
