Marcella “Sally” Grober, age 79 of New Hampton, IA passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2015 with her family by her side at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab.

Marcella Marie Grober was born March 20, 1936 on the family farm southwest of Alta Vista, the daughter of Albert and Ann (Scanlon) Dietrich. She attended St. William’s School in Alta Vista, graduating in 1954. Following graduation, she worked for the G.F. Crooks family and also at the Alta Vista State Bank. On January 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to Andrew Grober at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. To this union seven children were born. Andy and Sally farmed the Grober family farm southwest of Alta Vista until their retirement in 1998, when they moved to New Hampton.

Sally was a member of Holy Family Parish. In her younger years she was active in the St. Bernard’s Parish in Alta Vista, serving on the Rosary Society, as a lector and lay minister, and taking communion to the homebound. She served on the St. Bernard’s Parish Council and was a former member of the Archdiocesan Board of Education. Sally belonged to Catholic Daughters of the Americas for several years and also taught CCD classes. Sally and Andy together also enjoyed assisting with many TEC and Pre-Cana classes over the years. Sally was also a lifetime member of the New Hampton Hospital Auxiliary.

Sally enjoyed playing cards, reading, traveling and visiting with family, neighbors and friends. She especially enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren. Sally was a fantastic cook and baker and was known for her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, pies, potato salad, and chocolate chip cookies.

Sally is survived and deeply missed by her children, Nancy Grober of New Hampton; Leon (Clare) Grober of Alta Vista; Lynn (Scott) Felder of Union, MI; Ann Grober of Council Bluffs, IA; John (Lisa) Grober of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; and Sue (Michael) Jensen of Peoria, IL; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren with one on the way; three step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis Dietrich of Elma and Paul Dietrich of Charles City; one sister, Mary Tilkes of Ionia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Andy of nearly 55 years on November 24, 2010; a daughter, Elizabeth, in infancy and one brother, Leo Dietrich.
