Ruth L. Schultz, age 91 of New Hampton, IA passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Ruth Lucille Breitbach Schultz was born February 15, 1924 to Edward and Mabel (French) Breitbach on the family farm in Chickasaw County. She attended rural school and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1941. She worked for a time at Salsbury Lab in Charles City.
Ruth was united in marriage to Eugene Schultz, Sr. at St. Patrick’s Church in Jerico, Iowa, on November 14, 1945. The couple farmed a year in New Hampton and then 12 years near Cresco, where she was a member of Assumption parish. In 1960, Ruth and Eugene moved to a farm south of New Hampton where they attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and raised their nine children.
In 1972, Ruth began working at Sara Lee until her retirement in 1987. She also drove school bus for New Hampton School District for 12 years. Ruth was a member of the Rosary Society and 500 Mixer. She lived for her children and grandchildren; most of them living nearby. In 1998, the couple moved from the farm to a mobile home in Smith Estates where she resided until her recent move to the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Eugene, Sr. of New Hampton; her sons, Eugene, Jr. (Mary Jane) Schultz of New Hampton, IA; Ralph (Joan) Schultz of Fredericksburg, IA; Charles (Jane) Schultz New Hampton, IA, Michael (Sue) Schultz of St. Louis, MO; Gary (Michele) Schultz of Waverly, IA; her daughters, Janet (Jim) Gorman of New Hampton, IA; Julie (Jim) Eckenrod of New Hampton, IA; Kathy (Bill) Shekleton of New Hampton, IA and Patty (Randy) Lenehan of New Hampton, IA; her brother, Dick (Eileen) Breitbach of New Hampton; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; great great-grandchild; 20 step grandchildren; 24 step great-grandchildren; a step great great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Pat Schultz; her son-in-law, Tim Volk; grandchildren, Jennifer Schultz and Jerod Schultz; great-grandchild, Joseph Waller; her brothers, Ed and Donald Breitbach and her sisters, Viola Palmersheim, Catherine (Schwickerath) Duryee.
