FREDERICKSBURG - Gertrude Naomi Mikes, 86, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at the New Hampton Care Center, New Hampton.

She was born Feb. 2, 1919, in New Hampton, daughter of William and Pauline Paulson Degner. She married Carl Mikes on May 9, 1942, in Tulsa, Okla. He died Oct. 8, 1996.

Mrs. Mikes graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1936 and was a charter member of the AMVET Auxiliary. She worked as a lab technician for AMPI, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Carla Jo Mikes of West Des Moines; a brother, Harold Degner of Des Moines; and two sisters, Luella Gitch of New Hampton and Lurline O'Day of Jacksonville, Fla.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Hunt and Ruth Gruenberg.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Fredericksburg. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
