FREDERICKSBURG - Marian Marie Mahlstedt, 81, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.

She was born Feb. 2, 1924, at home in rural Chickasaw County, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Kraft Mellmann. On March 1, 1945, she married Lester Mahlstedt at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Nashua.

Mrs. Mahlstedt graduated from Nashua High School in 1941 and went on to graduate from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, with a teaching degree. She began teaching all grades in rural Chickasaw County.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Lester Jr. of New Hampton and Larry Dean of Des Moines; four daughters, Elinor Ferguson (Stu) of Gunnison, Colo., Linda Mulholland (Ken) of Hanover, Ill., Deloris Ryan (Steve) of LeGrand and Betty Lampe (Bruce) of Ionia; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Darlene (Richard) Horne of Lompoc, Calif.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane; two brothers, George and Dale Mellman; and a sister, Bessie Horne.

Services were 10:30 a.m. today at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, with burial in Richland Cemetery, rural Nashua. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, was in charge of arrangements.
