FREDERICKSBURG - Zelpha Karnatz, 98, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

She was born Sept. 30, 1906, near Kalona, daughter of Albert and Carrie Snider Fry. She married Walter Karnatz on June 28, 1927, in Iowa City. He died March 14, 1959.

Mrs. Karnatz and her husband farmed near Boyd. She also had worked at Sunrise Nursing Home, Fredericksburg, and Fairview Nursing Home, New Hampton.

Survivors include: three daughters, Margaret (Harley) Wendt of Fredericksburg, Shirley (Don) Blazek of Lawler and Charlotte (Ross) Braland of Burnsville, Minn.; a son, Ronald (Lynn) of Norwalk; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: four brothers; and two sisters.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church, Fredericksburg, followed by an Order of Eastern Star service. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. Friends may call for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, is in charge of arrangements.
