FREDERICKSBURG - Virginia Mae Schwickerath, 79, of Freder?icksburg, died Saturday, July 16, at Chandler Regional Hospital, Chandler, Ariz.
She was born Dec. 4, 1925, in rural Chickasaw County, daughter of Irwin and Ellen Marie "Nellie" Fitzgerald Weigel. She married Ray Schwickerath on April 25, 1946, in Jerico.
Mrs. Schwickerath taught rural country school; was the bookkeeper for New Hampton Freight and Kent Feeds; and was a working partner at the former Chips Ballroom, Lawler.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, David (Jennifer) of Atlanta, William "Chip" (Darlene) of New Hampton and Brian (Carol) of Waterloo; three daughters, Susan Kearney of Des Moines, Bridget (Kenneth) Kuennen of Denver, and Anita (Andrew) Petersen of Chandler; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Russell and William (Marlene) Weigel, both of New Hampton, James (Sharon) Weigel of Charles City and John Joseph "Jack" (Doris) Weigel of Cedar Falls.
Preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Heiselman and Marie Schwickerath.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Parish-St. Josephs Center, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in New Hampton. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. rosary, a 7 p.m. Scripture service and 7:30 p.m. video memorial tribute. Visitation also 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
