Funeral services for Robert Kovarik were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 20 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. The Rev. Donald Hawes officiated. Interment was in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. Pall bearers were: Jan Ewart, Wayne Kovarik, Roman Kovarik, Sara Clausman, Jeff Landa, Maria Kovarik, Mike Clausman and Katie Clausman. Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Robert, 81, died Monday, January 17, 2000.
Robert Joseph Kovarik was born February 23, 1918 on a farm near Protivin, the son of Adolph and Albina (Koudelka) Kovarik. He attended country school and graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin in 1937.
On November 25, 1940 he married Helen Taylor at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. They farmed for many years near Protivin and Spillville. In 1980 they moved to town into the senior citizens apartments where Robert was the resident maintenance man, and continued helping on the farm. He enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Spillville; two daughters, Cathy Bailey of Kempton, PA, and Rosemary Clausman of Waterloo; one son, Ron of Calmar; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul of Protivin.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
