Funeral services for Melba Forsman of Fredericksburg were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3 at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg with Pastor Laura Hucke officiating.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg. Pallbearers were: Brent Forsman, Jill Forsman, Scott Forsman, Joni Williams, Daniel Forsman, Mitchell Williams, Joel Williams, and Ryan Forsman. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Melba, 93, died Sunday, October 31, 2004 at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Melba E. Forsman was born January 18, 1911 in Richfield Township rural Fayette County, the daughter of Elmer and Nettie (Nieman) Kilcher. Her mother died in 1912 and Melba was raised in Sumner by her grandfather, August Nieman and her aunt, Laura Nieman Ribbeck. She attended school in Sumner graduating in 1928. She then taught in rural public schools in Fayette and Chickasaw Counties for four years.

On June 29, 1933 she married Peter Donald Forsman at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner until moving to Fredericksburg in 1941 where she later joined Peace United Church of Christ.

She enjoyed playing bridge, camping, and square dancing.

She is survived by two sons, Donald of Adel and James of Cameron, WI; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldred Kilcher of Alpha; and one sister, Ruth Diemer of Fredericksburg.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband Peter on October 29, 1985; her parents; her grandfather, August Nieman; and one brother, Paul Kilcher.
