FREDERICKSBURG - Harry Lee Carpenter, 65, of Fredericksburg, died at home Wednesday, April 27, 2005.

He was born Aug. 17, 1939, in Fredericksburg, son of Peter and Velta Snider Carpenter. He married Kathy Still April 16, 1966, in Protivin. They later divorced and were to remarry in May.

Mr. Carpenter graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1958. He started as a welder for John Deere in 1959 and retired from Deere in 1997. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and served 3 1/2 years in Germany.

Survivors include a son, Gary (Nicole) Carpenter of Leroy, Wis.; a daughter, Tracy (Rick) Klemp of Hartland, Wis.; his ex-wife, Kathy Carpenter of Hartland, Wis.; four grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth of Milwaukee; and two sisters, Blanche Michener of Eagle Grove and Maxine (John) Costello of New Hampton.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Donald, LaVerne and Robert; and two sisters, Roberta Carpenter and Lois Nixt.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church, Fredericksburg, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, with military rites by Fredericksburg AMVETS Post No. 90. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, and for an hour before services at the church Saturday.
