R. Edythe Diederich, age 96, of New Hampton, IA died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab.
Ruth Edythe Diederich was born to Daniel and Bernice (Bloom) Diederich on May 7, 1914 in Nashua, IA. After her family moved to North Washington, IA, Edythe attended and graduated from St. Marys School in 1932. She later graduated from St. Josephs Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Dubuque, IA in 1936. Edythe worked as a nurse at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. Later she moved back to Iowa and worked at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City for many years as nurse and later as director of nursing. Edythe was also employed as a nurse at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton until her retirement. Edythe enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, reading, and crocheting. She was a member of Holy Family Parish St. Josephs Center, a 50 year member of Catholic Daughters of America, and the Carmelites.
Edythe is survived by her sister Marion Hecky of Mohtomedi, MN; her brother-in-law David Smith of Dayton, OH; nieces and nephews Carolyn (Richard) Havel of Calmar, IA, Sister Lois Tilkes OSF of Dubuque, IA, Florence Tilkes of Ionia, IA, Nick (Jean) Tilkes of New Hampton, IA, Jan (Bob) Helligas of Nashua, IA, Madelyn (Richard) Lansing of Ossian, IA, Grace Pittman of Westminster, CO, Mary (Tom) Morse of St. Paul, MN, Karen Hostetler of South St. Paul, John Hecky of Trego, WI, Kay (Jerry) Mosimann of Scandia, MN; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Leone Tilkes and Kay Smith; her brother Joseph; a brother and sister in infancy; and her nephew Lawrence Tilkes.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Burial will be in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery at Nashua, IA with Nick Tilkes, Richard Havel, Jerry Mosimann, Tracy Ott, Don Flick and Linus Flick serving as casket bearers.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 4:00-7:00pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with a Rosary at 4:30pm and a Scriptural Wake Service at 6:00pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Holy Family Parish St. Josephs Center in New Hampton with Father Mark Osterhaus celebrating the mass.
