Loraine E. Kolbet, age 95, of New Hampton, IA passed away peacefullyon Sunday, February 6, 2011 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center.
Loraine Eva Kolbet was born on March 26, 1915 to Michael and Theresa (Peske) Burgart on a farm near North Washington, IA. She attended and graduated from St. Marys School in North Washington in 1932. On June 5, 1939 Loraine was united in marriage to Joseph Kolbet at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington. The couple farmed near Alta Vista until their retirement in 1985. Joseph and Loraine then moved to New Hampton. Loraine enjoyed music, gardening, crocheting, baking and cooking, sewing, attending mass at the hospital, the hospitality following mass, cards and games along with bus trips. Her family was her greatest love. Loraine was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Josephs Center, Holy Family Rosary Society, St. Josephs Mixer and 2 to 4 Club.
She is survived by her children Ken (Norma) Kolbet of Naperville, IL, Shirley (Gary) Fries of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Phyllis (Larry) Brown of New Hampton, Dale (Valerie) Kolbet of Alta Vista, Roger (Jean) Kolbet of New Hampton, Leon (Suellen) of New Hampton, and Joann (Tim) Throndson of Raleigh, NC; 22 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton (Mavis) Burgart and Vincent (Francella) Burgart both of New Hampton; two sisters-in-law, Elma Burgart of New Hampton and Geneva Kolbet of Osage, IA.
Loraine was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joseph on January 11, 2003; one son, Ralph; her brothers, Raymond, Clarence and Marvin; her sisters, Adeline and Sarah; one great-grandson, Connor Fries.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Holy Family Parish or St. Joseph's Catholic School at 202 North Broadway, New Hampton, Iowa 50659 or to charity of donor's choice.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Alta Vista, IA.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with a Rosary at 4:00 pm and a Scriptural Wake Service at 5:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the mass on Thursday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Holy Family Parish-St. Josephs Center in New Hampton with Father Mark Osterhaus celebrating.
