Obituary for Fern E. Schneider

Fern E. Schneider, age 92, of New Hampton, formerly of Rogers, Arkansas, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be held in October in Rogers, Arkansas. There will be no local funeral service. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton is in charge of the arrangements.

Fern Eleanor Schneider was born March 1, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Alexander and Anna (Frederickson) Peterson. She was a 1938 graduate of Schurz High School in Chicago and attended Wright Junior College. On February 21, 1944, in Chicago, she married Vernon E. Schneider. To this union two children were born. They moved to Mt Prospect in 1951. Fern had worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, worked as a newspaper writer, and was a home-maker. The couple retired to Rogers, AR, in 1973. Vernon died in 1990 and Fern has made New Hampton her home for the last five years.

Fern was a friendly, giving lady with sparking eyes and a spunky personality. She was involved in many organizations, often in leadership roles. She sewed quilts for charity as well as for her family, and enjoyed a variety of crafts. For her church in Rogers, she fashioned weekly symbolic flower arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Jean Becker of New Hampton; one son, Steven (Tina) Schneider of Wellington, CO; seven grandchildren: Joel Becker, Jana Moser, Sara Snowden, Sheryn Boos, Amy Cohen, Bonnie Mayer, and Craig Schneider; eleven great-grandchildren; two nieces, and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Victoria Peterson; one sister-in-law, Violet Smith; a niece, a nephew and infant twin sons.
