LAWLER - Veronica "Vera" M. Kuennen, 97, of Lawler, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Hampton.

She was born June 27, 1911, on the family farm near St. Lucas, daughter of William and Elizabeth Drilling Lusson. On Sept. 16, 1935, she married William H. Kuennen at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas. He died Aug. 6, 1991.

Mrs. Kuennen received her education at Immaculate Conception Academy, Dubuque. She and her husband farmed near St. Lucas and then near Lawler. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler.

Survived by a daughter, Helen (Dan) Cahalan of Rockwell; five sons, Ronald of Lawler, Jerome (Andrea) of Burnsville, Minn., Robert (Alice) of Cedar Falls, William (Linda) of Cedar Rapids and Vernon (Betsy) of Davenport; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kuennen of St. Lucas.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dorothy; an infant granddaughter; a daughter-in-law, Kay Kuennen; two brothers, Ed and Herbert Lusson; and five sisters, Florence Bodenstiener, Katherine Kuennen, Victoria Jones, Eleanor Franzen and Lorraine Baldwin.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Lawler, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6 p.m. Scripture service; Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.
