Raymond C. Popes, 71, of New Hampton formerly of Nashua died April 4, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Nashua with Rev Carl Ries officiating. Christy Laube will be the organist, playing, "Amazing Grace", "Jesus Loves Me" and "How Great Thou Art".

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Roseville, IA with Dean Popes, Mark Popes, Scott Logan, Mike Logan, Steve Hahn, Junior Boeckmann, Daryl Copp and Mark Smith serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. There will be a scripture service at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Raymond Carlton Popes was born January 1, 1938, in Charles City, Iowa the son of George and Magdalen (Osier) Popes. He lived in the Roseville and Charles City area and attended rural school. In 1970, he moved with his parents to a farm west of Nashua. His father died in 1974, and with his mother they moved to an apartment in Nashua. Ray enjoyed farming and worked as a farmhand for a number of local farmers. In 1997, he moved to New Hampton. Ray enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and was a good pool player.

Ray is survived by one brother, Robert ( Marlys) Popes of Plainfield and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; a sister, Shirley Logan; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Logan; three nephews and a niece.
