NEW HAMPTON - Adrian "Skeeter" Skoda, 79, of New Hampton, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

He was born March 19, 1929, near Lawler, son of Louis and Eleanor Busta Skoda. On May 20, 1950, he married Maxine Groesbeck at Assumption Catholic Church, Cresco.

Mr. Skoda received his education at Assumption Catholic School, graduating in 1948, and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was initially a part owner of Cresco Bowling Center and in 1957 purchased the New Hampton Bowling Center. In 1968 he built the current Bowlaway Lanes in New Hampton. He was a former state president and state director of the Iowa Bowling Proprietors Association.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Dale (Cathy) and Tony, both of New Hampton; three daughters, Sue (Dan) Huffman of New Hampton, Jo (Randy) Vaala of Lawler and Carol (Rod) Olson of Ocala, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin (Shirley) of Cresco; a sister, Anna Mae (Sonny) Christiansen of Cresco; and a sister-in-law, Mary Skoda of Cresco.

Preceded in death by a brother, Arnold.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in New Hampton. Public visitation from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 5 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.
