Mrs. James Douglas of Fredericksburg in Death's Sleep
Passed Away April 15th.
The Funeral Was Held Monday Forenoon from the M.E. Church at Fredericksburg.

Mrs. Carrie Douglas died at her home here Saturday, April 15th, 1933. She had been a semi-invalid for ten years and five weeks ago suffered a stroke of paralysis which resulted in death.

Mrs. Douglas was a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Godfrey Bock. She was born on September 4th, 1847 at Arlington, Vermont. She was one of a family of six, all of whom have passed on except F.W. Bock, a brother, now living at Springville, Iowa. When she was sixteen years old she came with her parents to Solon, Johnson County, Iowa. While there she was married in 1868 to James Douglas. In 1893 Mr. and Mrs. Douglas moved to Marion, Iowa and in 1913 they moved onto a farm west of Fredericksburg. Mr. Douglas died in 1925. Mrs. Douglas has resided in Fredericksburg for the past ten years.

The children to survive this aged mother are George and Carrie Douglas, Fredericksburg; Norman Douglas, New Hampton; Mrs. A. M. Oxley, Marion, Iowa; Mrs. H. S. Sutliff, Denver, Colorado and Mrs. R. J. Harrison, Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Douglas was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church since she was sixteen years of age.

Her funeral was held Monday forenoon at the M.E. Church at 10:00 A.M., the Rev. H.R. Schmidt officisting. Burial was at Marion, Iowa where she was laid to rest beside the body of her husband. Mrs. Douglas was most tenderly cared for during her declining years by her son, George and her daughter Carrie. During a seven year period the devoted daughter has not left home because of the constant care required. Her devotion to her mother was most praiseworthy.

Mrs. Douglas was a quiet, unassuming woman, busy in her early life with the manifold cares and responsibilities of a pioneer wife and mother. She possessed a gentle, refined nature and was much liked by those whose lives were touched by her. To those who mourn the loss of a loving mother is extended the sympathy of friends. There are seventeen grandchildren and several great grandchildren to grieve the passing of a dear and revered grandmother.
