Died at the home of her son G. W. Pittenger in Elma, on Sunday, November 24, 1895, Mrs. Minirva Pittenger, aged 76 years, 1 month and 24 days.

The funeral occurred at the Methodist church in Deerfield on Tuesday following four o'clock p.m., Rev. Lusk officiating.

Deceased was a member of the M.E. church for 35 years, leading a consistent and steadfast Christian life. The journey across the dark river held no terrors for such a one and she went to her last rest willingly feeling that she had fought a good fight and that her usefulness was well past and her days well spent.

She was married to A. Pittenger in 1838. Came to Illinois in 1845. They resided there about 20 years rearing a family of 13 children, two daughters, and 11 sons, of which seven sons are now living. They moved to Iowa in 1864 locating in Chickasaw County near Alta Vista, on a farm previously pre-emptied. Here they went through the hardships and severe trails of pioneers, of which all old settlers in this vicinity are familiar. Her husband died in 1889.
