Obituary for Mervin Leonard Pecinovsky

Mervin Leonard Pecinovsky, age 57, of Protivin, Iowa, died Thursday November 21, 2013 at his home, of a farming accident.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday November 26, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin with Rev. Nick March officiating. Marlene Pecinovsky will serve as organist with the accompaniment of Mirum Humpal as vocalist. The pall will be placed by his son, brother, two sisters and Anita Weiland. Lector for the service will be Art Swestka.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Protivin, with Ron Novak, Victor Lukes, Dave Ondrashek, Jim Bouska, Brad Moudry and Allen Moudry serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Recker and Mike Pecinovsky.

Friends may greet the family 3 - 8 p.m. Monday November 25, 2013 at the Protivin Community Center, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary.

Hugeback-Johnson's Protivin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mervin Leonard Pecinovsky was born June 15, 1956, the son of Leonard F. and Rosemary (Kriener) Pecinovsky. He received his education at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Protivin through the 8th grade. He was a 1974, Turkey Valley High School graduate and also graduated from the Area 1 Vo-Tech College in 1976.

On February 12, 1983, in Fayette, Iowa Mervin was united in marriage to Sandra Lau. To this union, one son, Darren was born. The couple later divorced. He remained on the family farm his entire life.

Mervin loved going to farm sales, morning coffee, and the ritual Sunday morning coffee at “Baldy's” with all his buddies. Merv always looked forward to Czech Days. He loved working at the brat stand and visiting with everyone. Merv spent his entire life on the family farm where he worked closely with his father and son. Planting and harvesting were his favorite times of the year. He had a genuine love for working the land.

Mervin was a jokester and loved to tease his nieces and nephews. He also had loved his most recent trips and cruises with his gilrfriend Anita. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mervin is survived by his son, Darren (Heather) Pecinovsky of Protivin; his father, Leonard Pecinovsky of Cresco; girlfriend, Anita Weiland of Cresco; one brother, Neal (Sandy) Pecinovsky of Mason, Michigan; two sisters, Karen (Tim) Halvorson of Baldwin, Wisconsin and Janet Nulty of Hastings, Minnesota; five nephews, Logan Pecinovsky, Sean Pecinovsky, Ryan Nulty, Erik Halvorson, Chris Halvorson and Alex Halvorson; two nieces, Lynna Nulty and Liz Nulty.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary in 1988; one brother-in-law, Jim Nulty in 2000.
