Christian Petersen Passed Away Suddenly Last Thursday Evening

Death came as it must come to all men to Christian Petersen, on Thursday evening, June 8, 1939, at 7:30 o'clock.

Mr. Petersen was born December 27, 1893 at Clarence, Iowa, a son of Soenke H. Petersen and his wife, Christina born Lorenzen. Mr. Petersen was baptized into the name of the Triune God by the pastor at Olin Iowa. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Melvin, Iowa. On February 15, 1923, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Elizabeth Downes at Boyd. This happy union resided on a farm near Fredericksburg where Mr. Petersen was occupied in the devinely blessed and noble calling of farming.

Because of diligence and honesty in his occupation he gained for himself the respect of those with whom he dealt and with whom he came into contact of a retiring and peaceful nature, his was a life of living in harmony with his fellow men. It was also for this reason that he was admired.

Mr. Petersen bore burdens of illness in his life. Some 13 years ago he submitted to a very serious operation. Seemingly recovered he went about his duties. Suddenly however, on Wednesday evening, June 7th, he was taken ill and was rushed to the New Hampton hospital. He was operated upon immediately. Nevertheless all prayers and human skill could not avail. Peritonitis set in, and 24 hours after he had first taken ill he passed away from this earthly life. The cause of his death was a perforated ulcer.

He attained the age of 45 years, 5 months, and 12 days.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Petersen, one step-son Leonard Downes, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Petersen of Harris, Iowa, three sisters, Mrs. Sophie Folkers , Sibley, Iowa; Mrs. Martha Carlson, Marion, Iowa. Six brothers who acted as pallbearers Hans, Forest City, Iowa; Max, Soenke, Cornelius of Harris, Iowa; Martin, Sibley, Iowa; Louie, Grand Meadows, Minnesota, and many other relatives and friends.

The following out of town guests attended the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. SH Petersen, Sr, Mr. and Mrs. Max Petersen, Mr. and Mrs. Soenke Petersen, Mr and Mrs Cornelius Petersen of Harris, Iowa; Hans Petersen, Forest City, Iowa; Mr and Mrs Henry Folkers, of Sibley, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Carlson and Donald of Marion, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wm Recker of Esterville, Iowa; Mr and Mrs Louie Petersen, Grand Meadows, Minnesota; Mr and Mrs Martin Petersen , Sibley, Iowa; Mr and Mrs Barney Hartman, Waterloo, Iowa; Mr and Mrs Chris Petersen, Sr, Mr.and Mrs. Soenke Petersen, Mr and Mrs Ernest Petersen, Mr and Mrs Hans Petersen Jr, Mr and Mrs John Petersen, Mr and Mrs Claus Evers all of Sleepyeye, Minnesota.
