I would like to hear from anyone who is also searching for information on Timothy DONOVAN who was in the 1920 Census for Cherokee, Iowa. The story is that his oldest sister Mary DONOVAN came to the U.S. from Ireland in 1864 and worked as a domestic in Joliet, IL, sending money home to Ireland to bring the rest of her family. The parents were Jeremiah & Mary DONOVAN, they brought all the remaining children except Timothy around 1868. Timothy was only 2 years old, and had a rash, so the family left him with relatives in Ireland. According to the 1920 Census Timothy finally came to the U.S. in 1876, and went to live with his sister Mary and her husband Peter Hagerty WALLACE in Ashkum, Illinois. According to Peter WALLACE's obituary "Tim Donovan of Cherokee Iowa" attended the funeral, that's where I found Timothy listed in the 1920 Census. Timothy married Ellen KORTHUIS(sp?) who had been born in Holland, she died before 1920. There were three children living with Timothy in the 1920 Census: Grace (b. abt 1901); Claus (b. abt 1905); and Thomas (b. abt 1901). I believe they had more children. Mary DONOVAN WALLACE was my great-great-grandmother, so I would love to hear from any of Tim's descendants.
