Lyle V. Mummert, 60, of Cherokee died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Mummert was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Cherokee, the son of Harry and Ruth (Gifford) Mummert. He attended school in Cherokee, graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in 1956.
He married Kay Ellerbroek on Jan. 3, 1959, in Cherokee. She died April 6, 1996. The couple ran the Cherokee Bowl for several years. He also operated "The Office" in Cherokee for several years. He was employed with Illinois Central Railroad for 15 years.
He was a member of United Transportation Union, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and the National Guard. He enjoyed collecting and showing gasoline artifacts and antiques.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands: Elizabeth and Tom Minger of Des Moines, Sharon and Joseph Nieman of Le Mars, Iowa and Pam and Brad Arndt, of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Paul Mummert and Jill Schmidt of Lake City, Minn.; six grandchildren, Josua, Keshia, Emily, Matthew, Katherine and Megan; four brothers and their wives, Dean and Gretchen of Cherokee, Richard and Patty of El Cajon, Calif., Phil and Gretchen of Prescott, Ariz., and John and Donna of Plano, Texas; and a sister and her husband, Rita and Tony Carlson of Tavares, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
