Ellar A. Martin, 89, of Cherokee, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a brief illness.

Services will be at First Church of Christ in Cherokee. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin was born July 9, 1909, in Drakes Creek, Ark., the daughter of Norman and Nora (Mathis) Drake. She attended schools in Drakes Creek and Huntsville, Ark.

She married Reginald Martin on Jan. 9, 1927, in Fayetteville, Ark. The couple moved to Cherokee in 1928. She was employed with Cherokee Community Schools in the lunchroom and with Cherokee Clinic. Reginald died May 23, 1986.

She was a member of First Church of Christ and enjoyed quilting and her doll collection.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Harold and Phyllis of Cherokee and James and Geraldine of Windsor, Va.; two daughters, Helen and her husband, Harold Dittmer, of Cushing, Iowa, and Betty Martin of Cherokee; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clydia and Mamie Drake, both of Fayetteville, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Marian Patterson of Cherokee; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Martin of Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
