Rites for Soldier Will be Monday In Cherokee
The body of Pvt. Merlyn Johnson, Cherokee Marine killed in action September 5, will arrive in the city Saturday evening.Johnson was killed while serving with the Marines at the Korean front. His body was shipped from San Francisco to this city by rail.
He had been in service since September 4, 1951 and overseas February 18 of this year.
Survivors include: His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Johnson of Cherokee; one brother and four sisters – Espy at home; sisters – Mrs. Virgil Jenness of Paullina, Leona, Lorraine and Velma, all at home; half-sister, Mrs. Leroy Nagel, Cherokee is grandfather, Thomas E. Smith of Chereokee, also survives.
