Sioux City – Mrs. LeNita Kahl, 96, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 2 from the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Cherokee. The Boothby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Kahl was born Jan. 15, 1894, in Cherokee County to Torell and Caroline Johnson Ohlson. She attended rural school in Cherokee County. She was married to Carl Kahl on Sept 1, 1920, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She and her husband had farmed in the Holstein area for many years. She had lived in Cherokee from 1946 until 1973, when she moved to Sioux City to be closer to her daughter. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Nov 2, 1954, a daughter June, a grandson Daniel Kahl, four sisters, Ruth, Edna, Clare and Nina; and also, three brothers Lloyd, Clarence and Reuben.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Dorothy Kahl, Holstein; two daughters: Mrs. Lawrence (Barbara)Kjorness, Sioux City, and Mrs. Shirley Balding, Jefferson and a son-in-law: Dr. Mark Massey, Bay Springs, Miss.; and also 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
