John W. Peterson, 83, died Wednesday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness.

Services will be Friday from the Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Peterson was born Oct 21, 1901, in Cherokee County. He moved to Sweden when he was 2 years old and returned to the United States when he was 17.

He married Mildred E. Bell June 2, 1927, at Dakota City, Neb., and farmed east of Cherokee for many years.

Mr. Peterson retired in 1963, moving into Cherokee where he made his home at 425 Clark St. He was custodian at Bethlehem Lutheran Church from 1963 to 1973.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Marvin Peterson, Cherokee; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Gould, Winfield, Kan., and Mrs. Dale (Jane) Wilmot, Cherokee; one brother, Otto Peterson, Sweden; two sisters, Helen Karrison and Esther Anderson, both of Sweden; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
