Walter Turnquist, 82, died Monday, Sept. 11, in Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. His home was at 607 W. Locust St. and had been a resident of Cherokee most of his life.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Turnquist was born July 22, 1907, at Albert City. He was married to June Leonard on Nov. 7, 1935 at Cherokee. He had worked as a carpenter in the Cherokee area for many years.
He is survived by one son, Dick Turnquist of Cherokee; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Clella) Smith, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Jack (Lorna) Clark, Cherokee, and Bette “Susie” Casper, Des Moines; one sister, Anna Turnquist, Milwaukee, Wis., and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June on Jan. 18, 1985, an infant daughter in 1938, four brothers and three sisters. (Source: Former Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook. Clipping hand dated 9-12-89)
