Richard A. Turnquist, 64, of 1523 540th St., Cherokee, died Wednesday, August 23, in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, following a short illness.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

He was born February 15, 1936, in Cherokee to Walt and Aleta June (Leonard) Turnquist. He attended Cherokee schools, graduating from Wilson High School in 1954. On August 22, 1975, he married Verona Kay Peck Carlson in Elk Point, South Dakota. Dick worked for Lundell Construction operating heavy equipment for many years. He was presently employed by Christensen Bro. in Cherokee as a semi-truck driver, hauling heavy equipment. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, being called to active duty, stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington during the Berlin Crisis. Dick was also known as a barber, working with James Conley and Jack Blair for several years.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Kip Turnquist, and his wife, Suzy, and their children, Jessica and Jami, of Sioux City; Kal Turnquist, Houston, Tx; 1 daughter, Jodi Collier, and her husband, Wes and their daughter, Lindsay, of Houston, Tx; 1 step-daughter, Corrine Lundell and her husband, Tom and their children Christina and Eric, of Cherokee; 1 step-son, Gary Carlson and his wife Kelly, and his children Tracy Larsen and her husband Paul; Kerri Vrooman, and her husband Justin; step great-grandchildren Kelsey Larsen, Trenton Larsen, Brett Larsen, Lynneigh Vrooman. Three sisters, Clella Smith and her husband, Jack of Council Bluffs; Lorna Clark, and her husband, Jack of Cherokee; Betty Sue Casper of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law Mabelle Peck, of Cherokee.
