Leo C. Alquist Sr., 82, of rural Meriden, died April 18 in the Country Side Estates following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Dr. Delmar Carlson will officiate, and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee.
He was born on Nov. 27, 1911, at Marcus to Axel and Anna Nelson Alquist. He was raised in North Dakota and later moved to South Dakota. He was married to Pearl Meyer on March 17, 1934, at Timber Lake, S.D. He and his wife lived on a farm north of Cherokee from 1936 until 1947 when they moved to their current farm home in Cedar Township northeast of Meriden. He had farmed all of his life. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Agnes Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl and two sons, Leo C. Alquist Jr. and his wife Linda of Cleghorn; Dennis Alquist and his wife Lois of Meriden; five grandchildren, Julie Berg, Jerry Alquist, Desiree Alquist; Denise Alquist; Derrick Alquist; six great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Clarence Alquist and his wife Helen of Cherokee and Mrs. Esther Dahlgren of Selby, S.
