Gladys M. Wallace, 92, of Lake View, Iowa and formerly of Cherokee, Iowa died Friday, July 4, in the Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held today, July 8 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee.
Mrs. Wallace was born August 24, 1904 at Wausa, Nebraska to Frank and Theresa (Carlson) Rosen. She graduated from Wausa High School. She married Jess Traver in 1922 and he died in 1944. ON January 5, 1950 she married L. A. “Bud” Wallace in Cherokee. She had resided in the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View for five- and one-half years and prior to this was a longtime Cherokee resident. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and had been active in other church activities until her health failed.
Survivors include two daughters: Glenda Bacon, Oak Lawn, Illinois; and Barbara and her husband Roger Flint, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Jim Wallace and his wife, Norma, Lake View, Iowa; a son-in-law, Reuben Bengston, Scottsdale, Arizona; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Zelma Berridge, Sun City, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Enid Rosen, Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jess on April 5, 1944; her husband, “Bud” on October 29, 1987; a daughter, Gail Bengston; three sisters and three brothers. (Source: Former Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook. Clipping hand dated 7-8-97)
