Mrs. Bernice E. Jones, 91, Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 1996 at 4 a.m. in the Cherokee Villa following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, at 2 p.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Gary Armstrong will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will be all day today, March 27, with the family present this evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jones was born on April 17, 1904 at Holstein, Iowa to George and Emma (Riedesel) Agnew. She graduated from Holstein High School in 1923. She was married to Alva E. Jones on April 16, 1924 at Cherokee. She had been a resident of Cherokee most of her life formerly residing at 257 E. Maple St. She had worked at the J. C. Penny Store, Nelson Drug, and at Lee’s Hardware in Cherokee retiring in 1984. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Charity Circle, Diadem Rebekah Lodge #372 in Cherokee and enjoyed craftwork, sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons: Don Jones and his wife Vicki, Roseville, California; and Gary Jones and his wife, Judy, Cherokee; one daughter Sally Puhrman, Cherokee; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-great grandson, and three sisters: Margery Garvey, Phoenix, Arizona; Dorothee Goodrich, Phoenix; and Ruth and her husband Jerry Loeb, Banning, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on October 13, 1967; and two brothers, Jesse and Bill Agnew.
