Gerald D. Jobe, 68, Cherokee died Tuesday, May 12 at St. Lukes Medical Center in Sioux City following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held Friday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the VFW will have military rites at the cemetery.

He was born Jan 29, 1924 at Aurelia to Merle and Ethlyn Holmes Jobe. He attended Cherokee public schools and was a Cherokee resident almost all of his life. He was married to Betty Johnson on Nov. 10, 1946 at Larrabee. His home was at 114 E. Maple St. He managed the VFW from 1951 to 1976. He then owned and operated Jobies until retirement in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, and three sons: Michael Jobe of LaPlatta, Maryland; Gary Jobe of Cherokee; Robert B. Jobe of Cherokee; six grandchildren, his mother, one sister, Mrs. Maxine Carnihan and four half-brothers, Doug Jobe, Louisiana; Don Jobe of Humboldt, Darrel Jobe of Ft. Dodge, and Duane Jobe of Des Moines.
