Quimby Mayor Dies in Minnesota
Quimby Mayor Vernon “Buzz” Corrington, 63, died Tuesday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a long illness.
He was mayor of Quimby the past 10 years.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Quimby United Methodist Church. The Rev. Marvin Cleair will officiate, and burial will be at the Quimby Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at the church. Boothby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Mr. Corrington lived on farms in Cherokee and Ida Counties before moving to Quimby 24 years ago. He was born Oct 10, 1920 in Cherokee County and married Phyllis Hartliep May 5, 1940 in Cherokee.
He farmed many years and had worked for Simonsen’s in Quimby for 20 years and Terra Chemicals for one year. He was a member of Quimby United Methodist Church.Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Vernon Corrington, Jr., Washta, and Dennis Corrington, College Station, Texas; two daughters, Connie Corrington, Cherokee and Mrs. Tom (Judy) Cameron, Alta; his mother, Mrs. Mary Corrington, Cherokee; three brothers, Loren Corrington, Cherokee, Marvin Corrington, Sequin, Texas, and Karl Corrington, Burbank, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Tom (Evelyn) Perrett, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Merle (Cleo) Baumgardner, Marcus and six grandchildren.
