Mrs. La Verne N. Alingh, 86, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 4, at her home in Cherokee following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, at 11 a.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Gary Armstrong will officiate, and burial will be in the Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at the funeral home on Monday.
She was born on November 12, 1907, at Sioux City, Iowa to Mr. and Mrs. Garret Van Steenwyk. She graduated from Central High School in 1925. She was married to Albert Alingh Jr., on March 1, 1929, at Sioux City, Iowa. She and her husband lied in Sioux City until 1942 when they moved to Cherokee, Iowa and she has resided here ever since. She was a homemaker and did work at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for several years. She was affiliated with the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and was a member of the Cherokee Friendship Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on May 2, 1973, and a sister and brother-in-law.
She is survived by two sons: Gerald Alingh and his wife Vicki of Des Moines, Iowa, Albert Alingh III and his wife Barb of Pratt, Kansas; five grandchildren: Steve Alingh and his wife Janet, Cathy Dohrmann and her husband Ken of Omaha, Nebr., Mike Alingh and his wife Teresa of Grand Island, Nebr., Kim Alingh of Pratt, Kansas, Candace Hamm and her husband Al of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
