Mrs. Melvin (Ella) Waddell, 74, of Cherokee, died Sunday, Dec 1, 1991, at 8:10 p.m. in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a six-month illness.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. from the Boothby Funeral home. Donald Hensley will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Mrs. Waddell was cremated. There will be no visitation. Burial of the cremains will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.

She was born March 17, 1917 in Cherokee County to Leslie Earl and Minnie Helland Boothby. She was married to Melvin J. Waddell on April 17, 1934 at Elk Point, S.D. Her home was at 726 W. Main St. She had been a resident of Cherokee since 1934. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, the Degree of Honor and had done volunteer work for the Cherokee County Archives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on March 20, 1980, and one sister, Roberta, in 1939.

She is survived by one daughter and her husband Barbara and Albert Alingh of Pratt, Kan.; three grandchildren, Kim Alingh of Pratt, Kan., Mrs. Alan (Candace) Hamm of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michael Alingh of Pratt, Kan.; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Boothby Sr., of Cherokee, Martin Boothby of Cherokee, Lloyd Boothby of Holstein; and one sister, Mrs. Bernetta Reinert of Marcus.
