Fern N. Sechler
Fern N Sechler, 92, of Meriden, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003, in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2003, at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate, Burial of the remain will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Meriden.
Fern was born January 16, 1911, in Elkton, S.D. to Andrew G and Nellie Mae (Cutting) Mood. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in Albert Lea, Minn. in 1929 Following graduation she worked for Cook's Coffee Shop in Marshall, Minn., for two years. She married Roy Sechler on January 9, 1932, in Sioux Falls. He preceded her in death in 1971
Fern started the Meriden School hot lunch program and worked there for 28 years. She also cooked for the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital on weekends and employee vacation time She loved bowling, crocheting, knitting, and playing cards She especially enjoyed playing 500 with her friends. She was a Royal Neighbor Insurance Recorder and a member of the VF W Auxiliary.
Survivors include sons Ronald Sechler and his wife Edith, Donald Sechler, all of Meriden, a step-daughter Charlene Mongan of Cherokee, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren. 14 step-great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Roy), a grandson (Jeffrey 1979), 2 sisters, 3 brothers, a daughter-in-law Eleanor Sechler 1999, and a son-in-law (Donald Mongan)
