Avis Janet Polson, 59, Cleghorn

CLEGHORN – Avis Janet Polson, 59, Cleghorn, died Friday, May 31, 1991, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, (Tuesday, June 4) at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial will be in the Marcus Amherst Cemetery.

Mrs. Polson, the former Avis Backhaus, was born June 10, 1931, at Wausa, Neb., the daughter of Lawrence and Blanche (Rohr) Backhaus. She moved to Iowa with her family in 1941 and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1948. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught school at Manilla, Sioux City, Palmdale, Calif., and in the Marcus community schools. On July 16, 1955, she married Paul Polson in Cherokee. The couple had lived and farmed near Cleghorn since 1955. Mrs. Polson was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and the Agape Circle of the church.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mark of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bruce and his wife, Teri, of Columbia, S.D.; a daughter, Dawn, and her husband Terry Jaminet of Paullina; a brother, Dale Backhaus of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Lila) Beazley of Correctionville and Mrs. Al (Carole) Dumbleton of Sebring, Fla.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
